Table 1

Title:  Digital Portfolios and Web 2.0

Presenter:  Lisa Bucciarelli, Hinsdale Central High School

Description: Digital portfolios provide students opportunities to archive presentations, collections of class documents and personal reflections. Web 2.0 tools enhance curriculum and inspire students to create innovative work that illustrates purposeful achievement.  This poster Table will illustrate the use of Digital Portfolios, Web 2.0 activities and podcasts in Foreign Language classes aligned with NETS-S.  Student samples, templates, standards based lessons plans and permission templates will be showcased.

Title:  NASA’s Line Up With Math

Presenters:  Kelli Hamilton and Jennifer Cantu, Huntley Middle School

Description: In this program, students use mathematics and problem solving skills to control and manipulate the landing of airplanes on a simulated radar screen.  Students must be able to apply mathematical concepts to successfully land the airplanes and avoid collisions in a real-life air traffic control setting.

Grade Focus:  Grades 6-8

Title: Extending Learning with Clayanimation

Presenters:  Cindy Huson and Susan Krumrei, Springfield District 186

Description:  Sometimes there just aren’t enough minutes in one class period to finish what’s been started.  Experience the results of our extended learning day as middle school students show Clayanimation projects completed through the use of extended hours.

Audience:  Elementary, Middle, and High School

Title:  When Students Become the Teachers:  Designing Technology-Based Science Curriculum

Presenters:  Linn McDonald, Michael Jones, Brittney Liska, and Jakob Scogin

Rhodes Elementary School

Description: Our district has intertwined biology and technology curriculum to challenge gifted students to create teaching and community resources for other students.  The display will feature ecology-issue public service announcements, how-to dissection videos, Wiki’s, podcast tours of our local zoo, and much more.

Title:  Using Speech Recognition Software with Students with Special Needs

Presenters: Teachers Samantha Isaacs and MaryJane Mescher

                       Students Michael Puryear and Jimmy Doehring

Description: Students with special needs use speech recognition software by Dragon Naturally Speaking™ to easily prepare documents and reports and to conduct internet searches.  Teachers appreciate the little training time required for use and the 99% accuracy results. Dragon provides students a fun way to perform tasks that were once tedious and overwhelming.

Morton District 709

Description: Using a blog format, our classroom has created a website combing regular elements of schedules, spelling lists, and calendars but have also added the features of posting written work, showcasing events/projects using voice thread, podcasting homework and week in review Tables, and offering web links for at home use.

Title:  Pen Pals for the 21st Century

Presenter:  Barb Sollberger

East Peoria District 86

Description: In East Peoria District 86, Barb Sollberger’s second grade class communicated with Sarah Master’s fifth grade class across town.  They used a secured blog throughout the school year.  Each student had an electronic pen pal discussing topics from Halloween to their favorite book.

Title: SMARTBoard Applications from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources

Presenter: Valerie Keener, Administrator, Division of Education

Illinois Department of Natural Resources

Description: The Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Division of Education offers SMARTBoard activities in science and social science. These supplemental, interactive lessons are correlated to the Illinois Learning Standards and the Illinois Early Learning Standards. English- and Spanish-language versions are available. Title: Using Word in Ways Never Thought Of….

Presenter: John Mertes, Rhodes School

Description: This project created schematics for our fire evacuation plans, our severe weather plans, our building schematic, and since we did such a great job, using Excel to create the school calendar.  All of these using an old version of MS word and MS excel, a color laser and hard work.
